About the Author

Childhood

Art Corriveau was born and raised in Barre, Vermont. He spent his summers on Lake Champlain. His mother taught elementary school. His father was fire chief and supervisor of public works for his hometown. They retired together to Florida. On Corriveau's maternal side, he hails from a long line of Vermont dairy farmers. On his paternal side, he descends from one of Quebec's oldest French colonial families.

Education

Art Corriveau received his MFA in Fiction Writing from the University of Michigan. He graduated from Boston University with two degrees: a BS in Mass Communication and a BA in French Literature. He was awarded the Diplôme d'études en langue française, deuxième degré avec mention, at the Centre Universitaire d’Études Françaises, Université de Grenoble, France.

Novel writing

Corriveau's first novel, Housewrights, was published by Penguin Putnam in 2002. It was a "Book Sense 76" summer selection that year and deemed an excellent first novel by both Publisher's Weekly and the San Francisco Chronicle. His debut middle-school novel, How I, Nicky Flynn, Finally Get a Life (an a Dog) was just published by Amulet Books (Abrams) in Spring 2010. He is currently at work on a second middle-grade novel for Abrams, as well as an historical novel for adults about Plato's exile on the island of Sicily.

Short fiction

Corriveau first began publishing short fiction while at Michigan. His short work has appeared in literary journals in the USA, Canada and the UK. Several of his stories have been anthologized in Faber and Faber's First Fictions series (1997) as well as Neonlit, Time Out's first anthology of new world writers (1998). Corriveau's first story collection, Blood Pudding, was released by Esplanade Books both in Canada (2007) and the USA (2008).

Screenwriting

Corriveau has recently completed a nine-month certificate program in screenwriting through the New Mexico Filmmaker's Intensive at the College of Santa Fe. His short film Güero, was directed by Kevin Jaramillo and produced by Rob Horvath. He has also written a feature-length script of his first middle-grade novel How I, Nicky Flynn, Finally Get a Life (and a Dog).

Professional writing

Art Corriveau has worked as a brand consultant, marketing director, copywriter, and speechwriter for 25 years. His fields of expertise are international travel, language education and cultural exchange. He has lived and worked in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, France, Sweden, Bangkok and Hong Kong. Teaching

Corriveau has led fiction writing workshops at Harvard University's Continuing Education Division, Art Institute of Boston, University of Michigan, and Northeast Cultural Co-op. He has also been a visiting writer to high schools throughout New England. He is available to conduct fiction workshops and seminars on the short story, adult novel or children's novel.
